Hey, it’s hard being spoiled, white, and pretty.

Diesel, in their infinite advertising wisdom, have decided that an ad campaign that makes climate change look fun is the way to go. Spoiled, pretty white kids frolic in the hot, watery 'new' climate, completely oblivious to the environmental destruction. (see the rest of the images here). I'm guessing that their target market is spoiled, pretty, oblivious white kids that can't wait to frolic in a hot, watery climate. Brilliant.

Scratch Beginnings coverAnnyway, in other news, this guy Adam Shepard, who is a spoiled, pretty white kid, decided he had quite enough of the spoiled, pretty white kid existence, and became a homeless person, with just $25 to his name. It was a bit of a social experiment, you see. He wanted to discover if he could live the American Dream, and pull himself up by his bootstraps, so to speak, and make a real go at life, starting from nothing. Furthermore, Adam Shepard, upon ending his experiment early (due to a 'serious family illness') documented his rags to some-money tale in a book, which is getting quite a bit of press lately. Hint: If you're not cringing yet, well, you're reading the wrong blog.

Coilhouse has an excellent dressing-down of this story, if you're so inclined, which points out how far from poverty Shepard really was, despite his, erm, best efforts. Guess what, if you can stop being poor at any time, you're not really poor. (You can visit Coilhouse if you just want to watch the video for Pulp's 'Common People', too.)
