annotation: librarian scholarship

As part of my academic library course this term, I need to create weekly 'annotations' on a paper, totaling no more than 100 words. This is one of them.

There is a literature devoted to academic librarianship, but when do librarians with full-time obligations create this scholarly work?

A survey of 467 Canadian librarians produced interesting results: ~50% indicated that scholarship was a job requirement or encouraged. However, ~72% of respondents replied that there was no clear guideline for the time spent on scholarship. Intriguingly, librarians indicated that they would like to spend 15% of their time on scholarship (up from ~%6), yet the majority did not use available research leave time.

Finding a balance between scholarship and daily work is clearly a challenge for academic librarians.

I think I wrote this one prematurely - these aren't due until next week. Oh well, good practice, I guess.
