About Breakable Crate

a crateBreakable Crate is really just a plain old blog about things that interest me. Nothing more, nothing less. If you want to know why I called it 'breakable crate', then I already know one thing about you: you don't play videogames.

The crate, and more specifically, the breakable or destructible crate is a staple of many video games (e.g., Half-Life). Inside might be a med-pak, a power-up, a weapon, some armour, or whatever. It means that in a game, when you see a crate, you smash it. You just do - it's instinctual. But you can do more with crates. yet more cratesYou can hide behind them; sometimes they even protect you from bullets (that's some thick wood). You can hide in them. You can store stuff in them (see: Oblivion).

On the other hand, they are pretty cliche - some think that a crate-sighting is the sign of a game designer that's run out of ideas. Yet others correctly point out that crates where there shouldn't even realistically be crates (as in, "how did it get there?") doesn't make much sense either.

In any case, when I thought of calling my site 'breakable crate', I chuckled to myself. And that's enough for me. It also makes me pretty lame, all 'chuckling to myself'. What, do I laugh at my own jokes, too?

You can never have enough half-life crates. They're so darn realistic looking!
